Our mission is to build safer, more connected communities through support of our clients and their transportation vision and goals for the future.DESCRIPTIONThe Michael Baker New Jersey Operations has an open position for a Civil Engineering Associate in the Transportation Planning and Engineering Department. Successful candidates will join a collaboration of experienced engineers, planners, and project managers dedicated to having a positive impact through effective transportation project delivery. The ideal candidate will be driven, intellectually curious, committed to excellence, and demonstrate a desire to make a difference in the communities we serve. The Associate will support project senior engineers, planners, project managers, on multi-disciplinary concept-level engineering and planning projects and will be responsible for the preparation of conceptual documents for federal, state, and local government clients, as well as private sector clients.RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Providing multimodal transportation engineering support in one or more of the following modes: surface transportation, safety, bicycle and pedestrian, public transportation.
  • Conducting analytical research on transportation policy and public transportation programs and issues.
  • Working closely with county and local governments to promote community and economic development through road, bridge, and active transportation network improvement projects.
  • Conducting data research to prepare existing condition reports including crash, traffic, and asset data.
  • Preparing technical reports, plans, and studies. This includes developing associated presentations, reports, graphics, tables, and maps.
  • Serving as a community engagement specialist to promote project efforts and solicit public input.
  • Conducting field work as required.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
  • 2-5 years of progressive civil/traffic engineering experience
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate and be on-track to obtain a PE License within one year, applicable. PE License in NJ and/or NY desirable
  • Experience in preparing Concept Development Studies is highly desirable.
  • Experience in Preliminary Engineering or Final Design project deliver is also desirable. Familiarity and experience with New Jersey DOT, New Jersey Transportation Planning Authority, NJ Counties and Municipalities, and Port Authority of New York and New Jersey project development process and design standards is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with NY State and NY City DOT standards and process is also desirable.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments independently under limited supervision
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills – Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Experience in traffic engineering/transportation planning software such as AUTOCAD, Bentley MicroStation, is highly desirable
  • Experience in traffic engineering/transportation planning software such as HCS, Synchro, SimTraffic, Vissim, and ArcGIS is also desirable

COMPENSATIONThe approximate compensation range for this position is $80,000 to $110,000. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
