Job Description: SummaryThe City is excited to announce that we are recruiting for a Library Intern position. The goal of the internship is to learn about the scope of library work and identify how their interests and skills match that work. The position require the recipient to be between 16-19 years of age. This position begins in January 2025 and is expected to end in June 2025.The intern is expected to learn basic principles, practices, and goals of library operations and youth volunteerism.The intern may be responsible for performing project research and recommendations; preparing information and/or supporting documents for meetings or projects; providing program assistance; participating in community outreach; and/or facilitating internal and/or external customer service.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.Assists in implementing and administering Library Summer Youth programProvides staff support for the Summer Reading ProgramKeeps immediate supervisor and designated others accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.Attends meetings and training sessions for Summer Youth and Summer Reading programs.Complete reports, surveys, and other documentation as required.Documents and presents project outcomes and learning.SUPERVISION: Works under the supervision of the Public Services Manager and receives direction from Teen Librarian.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual (Spanish) fluency is preferred.Reasoning Ability: Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, volunteers, and the general public.Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Possession of, or ability to obtain possession of, a valid Oregon driver’s license.Education and/or Experience: Sufficient education to ensure the ability to read and write.PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and push/pull up to 16-20 pounds initially, 10-15 pounds sustained. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.
Duties of this position are performed mostly in an indoor environment, involving heavy public contact, frequent interruption and with a usually moderate noise level.
