Job Description: Position DescriptionSeattle Public Utilities (SPU) has an opportunity for an experienced individual to process billing requests, provide customer support, review aged accounts and recommend work methods and processes. This role is essential to the sundry billing function and accounts receivable operations. Responsibilities will also include reconciliations, payment posting and maintaining accurate financial information for customers and collaborators. This position will report to the Accounts Receivable Manager.About Seattle Public Utilities: Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is a community-centered utility that delivers vital services to Seattle residents and businesses including drinking water, drainage and wastewater, and garbage/recycling/compost. Job Responsibilities
- Prepare invoice and journal (interdepartmental) billings.
- Daily payment posting.
- Perform month-end activities.
- Review and monitor aging report.
- Prepare journal entries for financial transactions.
- Audit and reconcile assigned accounts in the general ledger.
- Document and revise procedures.
- Prepare write-offs and collection activities.
- Provide customer support and answer customer billing questions via phone or email.
- Verify and review accounting transactions and make appropriate corrections, entries, and adjustments to ensure accuracy.
- Work collaboratively with cross-division/branch staff to provide billing information and improve processes.

Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.QualificationsExperience: Three (3) years of previous accounting and/or bookkeeping experience or one year work experience as an Accounting Technician II.Education and Experience Equivalency: Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.The ideal candidate should possess some of the following:
- Proven understanding of accounts receivable and reconciliations.
- Excellent customer service and strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong communication skills (both verbal and written), and able to handle difficult conversations with customers.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities and takes pride in the accuracy, quality, and completeness of work.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to estimate timelines and resources to accomplish a task.
- Experience with Peoplesoft or other large ERP financial system.
- Ability to function efficiently in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Demonstrated ability to take on challenges and work to solve them.
- Ability to clearly communicate accounting information in non-technical terms.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Experience working in a team environment, ability to build and maintain effective working relationships across different departments and workgroups and working effectively within a multi-cultural workforce serving a diverse customer base.
Working Environment/Conditions:
- This individual will work mainly in an office environment (hybrid opportunities are available, with a minimum requirement of four days in the office per two-week pay period).
