Job Description: Summer 2025 Human Resources Intern (IINE Boston)The International Institute of New England is a 501(c)(3) non-profit serving refugees and immigrants in Boston, MA, Lowell, MA, and Manchester, NH. The Institute offers internships to students, graduate students, and recent graduates with demonstrated interest or experience in supporting refugee, asylee, and immigrant populations. Each internship includes an educational component, through which interns contextualize their experience and reflect on their service.All internships are unpaid and correspond roughly with the US semester system:Summer Internship: June through mid-August 2025
(Applications requested by May 2nd, considered thereafter until positions are filled)First consideration is given to applicants that can commit at least 16 hours per week over the course of the semester outlined above. Applicants are encouraged to apply regardless of whether their schedule fits the semester system; IINE makes exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Slots fill quickly and candidates are encouraged to apply earlier than the requested date above.Please note that this internship will be a hybrid format, meaning that some in-person hours at our Boston, MA office are required.Human Resources Internship OverviewThe Human Resources intern will work closely with IINE’s Recruiter and HR team to learn about and assist with staffing and recruiting initiatives that support teams across the organization. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the strategic and ground level recruiting at a growing nonprofit. This is a wonderful opportunity to gain hands-on HR skills alongside a collaborative and supportive team.Reports to: Talent Acquisition Specialist or Senior HR ManagerLocation: Boston, MA (hybrid format)Key responsibilities:
- Assist Recruiter with staffing initiatives including:
- assisting at career fairs and community events
- phone screening potential applicants
- processing new hires, and
- delivering onboarding training
- Assist with job description database project including:
- standardizing templates
- reviewing needs with hiring managers, and
- compiling training checklists for each position
- Assist in auditing the Predictive Index (PI) process to ensure every employee has entered data, communicating with staff who don’t have a PI to collect this, and mapping scores for departments
- Other projects and duties as assigned and dependent upon intern’s educational goals
Qualifications:
- Interest in international, refugee, asylee, and immigrant issues
- Interest in human resources, systems, data, and networking
- Ability to work respectfully in a multicultural environment
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Highly organized with great attention to detail
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and to switch gears quickly
- Professionalism, discretion, and maturity in dealing with confidential information
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of HR databases and systems a plus
Learning Objectives: * Develop a professional voice and gain valuable business and human resources recruiting experience
- Gain insight into both administrative and programmatic work at a nonprofit
- Develop research and data analysis skills and apply them in the context of human resources and employee relationship management
