Title of the Job: Specialist III – Energy Assistant (Part Time)

Location: Taylorsville, UT

Job Description: Seeking a highly organized, motivated, and detail-oriented Energy Management Assistant to support the Energy Manager. This role requires advanced Excel skills, strong analytical capabilities, and excellent organizational skills to handle a large volume of data effectively.The Energy Management Assistant will play a key role in gathering, organizing, and analyzing data to help track energy usage and identify efficiency opportunities. The position requires an individual adept in Excel spreadsheets, understands energy units of measure, and can keep data and project documentation meticulously organized.
Essential Responsibilities and DutiesEnergy Star Portfolio Manager:

  • Use Energy Star Portfolio Manager to input, track, and benchmark energy data across our buildings, ensuring data is well-organized and accessible.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records to support ongoing energy assessments.

Incentive Programs and Rate Schedules:

  • Stay informed on Rocky Mountain Power and Dominion incentive programs and rate schedules, identifying opportunities to maximize cost savings.
  • Support project teams in applying for relevant incentives.

Data Collection, Organization, and Analysis:

  • Gather and meticulously organize data from utility bills, building characteristics, and energy use records.
  • Use Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas, and macros) to analyze data, identify trends, and support reporting.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, applying knowledge of energy units of measure (e.g., kWh, therms, BTUs) for consistent data management.

Benchmarking, Documentation, and Reporting:

  • Collaborate with facility managers to benchmark energy performance and identify improvement areas.
  • Prepare and maintain clear, organized reports to communicate findings, recommendations, and energy performance trends to stakeholders.

HVAC Equipment Knowledge:

  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems and equipment; support facility teams in identifying energy efficiency improvements.

Qualifications:

  • Strong Excel proficiency, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and macros for automation.
  • Experience organizing and managing large data sets with high attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with Energy Star Portfolio Manager or similar software is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of energy units of measure (e.g., kWh, therms, BTUs) and energy data.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and incentive programs (Rocky Mountain Power, Dominion) is beneficial but not required.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and maintain thorough, organized records.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Relevant certifications, coursework, or demonstrated experience in Excel, data analysis, or energy systems may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Two (2) – Four (4) years of direct paid work experience.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Utah Driver’s License.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Familiarity with Energy Star Portfolio Manager or similar energy management tools.
  • Knowledge of Rocky Mountain Power and Dominion’s incentive programs and rate schedules.
  • Understanding of HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Experience with Metasys and Skyspark.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Responsible for data collection, entry and computer applications for energy benchmarking using Portfolio Manager.
  • Energy consumption and cost data to benchmark building energy performance, assess energy management goals over time, and identify strategic opportunities for savings.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Proficient and accurate typist.
  • Exceptional customer service skills and phone etiquette.
  • Must have a valid Utah driver’s license.
  • Read, write, speak English fluently and communicate effectively.
  • Computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Banner, Outlook.
  • Organization skills.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Troubleshoot and research problems.
  • Must be able to multi-task.
  • Self-starter.

Special Instructions

  • This position requires a flexible schedule, which may include graveyard, swing shift, and day shifts.
  • This position requires driving between all campuses and centers.
