Job Description: Job Title Senior Mechanical Project EngineerJob DescriptionSenior Mechanical Project Engineer – Hay level 60We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer that will support the North American Warehouse Solutions Team.Vanderlande’s Engineering Department is responsible for the design, specification, and commissioning of Material Handling Systems, Warehouse Automation and Parcel Sortation systems for our customers throughout North America. In this position, you will be working with an engineering project team in the development of an automated warehouse or parcel sortation system. You will be responsible for ensuring the design meets the customer requirements, is coordinated with other trades to minimize conflicts during installation, can be installed with efficiency, and maintain excellent communication with the site team.Success in this role involves the ability to balance the technical requirements of the role while also having the soft skills to collaborate with and motivate the engineering team. It also involves working closely with stakeholders from other disciplines and other departments to balance priorities, improve processes and satisfy a complex set of goals. Success will require strong technical skills, creativity, strong interpersonal skills, drive, and passion. A successful candidate will demonstrate a keen intuition for when to attempt to solve problems on their own and when to enlist the help of other experienced leaders.Key Responsibilities:Your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:Translate customer drawings and specifications into a fully functional mechanical systemOptimize the functionality from as-sold to a working mechanical design within the budget in consultation with other disciplines (Electrical, Controls, Supply Chain, Installation, etc.)3D modeling of systems and subsequent clash detection managementAssociated 2D customer approval and installation layout drawingsPerform spatial analysis of clearance envelopes, egress pathways and forklift vehicular aislesPerform system and component level calculations (Throughput, motor power, belt pull, reactive forces to building structure, etc)Engineering of project specials needed for non-standard design applicationsEngineering of non-standard mechanical interfacesApply safety regulations and ergonomicsSpecify the mechanical equipment required, including both Vanderlande manufactured and third party purchased itemsCreate a motor manifest with respect to electrical and controls engineering requirementsDocument all engineering decisions through design plans, complete and clear installation files, and engineering instructions directed to a site supervisor and installation subcontractorTravel to site as needed to conduct site surveysSupport the installation and commissioning both on site, and from the Marietta officeProject document control using a rights based database systemRequirements:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering TechnologyMinimum of 8 years of relative work experience (or Associate ME/ET with 12 years related experience)Must be willing and able to travel domestically up to 25% with occasional international opportunitiesAbility to think conceptually (overall system) and translate this into a detailed system designAbility to work in an entrepreneurial organization where cooperating with others and being a team member is naturalStrong communicator, able to effectively understand and set expectations for deliverablesAble to handle time sensitive situations and quickly set the right priorities, while maintaining a firm grasp of the detailsWillingness to learnProactiveAbility to work autonomously or in a teamMotivator and ability to work well with team membersAbility to quickly assess a situation and take appropriate actionStrong team mentality and willingness to accept responsibility for project completion (Ownership Culture)Must have the ability to properly prioritize work/activitiesPossess a strong ability to solve problems and research solutionsExcellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skillsAbility to drive process improvementsExperience in project management or leading teamsAbility/Experience using Project Planning & Deliverables TrackingAbility to use AutoCAD 2D & 3DAbility to use AutoDesk Suite of tools (Revit, Navisworks, Vault, BIM360, ACC, etc)Desired Qualifications:Knowledge/Experience with OSHA 1910/29 Occupational Safety and Health StandardsKnowledge/Experience with International Building Code (IBC)Knowledge/Experience with ANSI B11 Machine Guarding StandardsKnowledge/Experience with ASME B20.1 Safety Standards for Conveyors and Related EquipmentKnowledge/Experience with ISO 13849-1Experience in Using Commercially Available Project Management Software such as MS Project or PrimaveraPlease note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
