Job Description: Job SummaryThe County of San Diego Planning & Development Services is now hiring!PROGRAM COORDINATOR – LONG RANGE PLANNINGInterviews will take place the week of January 13, 2024The County of San Diego is seeking a highly motivated Program Coordinator to join the dynamic Planning & Development Services (PDS) team. This role plays a key part in driving coordination across multiple divisions and departments, ensuring alignment on programs and projects that shape the County’s future. The selected candidate will lead intra- and inter-departmental efforts to ensure divisional objectives align with the County’s broader strategic initiatives, particularly focusing on housing policy, environmental sustainability, and long range planning.As a member of the PDS Housing division, this role will not only support cross-department coordination but also directly supervise a team of two to three planners responsible for the implementation of state legislation impacting planning initiatives within the County. Additionally, the Program Coordinator will serve as a liaison, ensuring legislative compliance and facilitating the seamless implementation of new policies by fostering collaboration among County departments and engaging with external stakeholders.IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Strong project coordination skills with an emphasis on cross-departmental collaboration.
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain working relationships with internal stakeholders, elected officials, community groups, and external agencies.
- Expertise in managing programs that require complex coordination between multiple departments and outside agencies.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a keen ability to track legislative updates and ensure timely compliance with new laws and policies.
- A solid understanding of environmental and urban planning processes, including regulatory compliance, budget management, and stakeholder engagement.
- Experience interpreting and applying legislative policies related to planning and development.
The Program Coordinator will:
- Oversee and manage projects that require collaboration between departments such as Planning and Development Services, Department of Public Works, and Department of Parks and Recreation.
- Assist with the implementation of legislation by working with a team to monitor new laws, updating program goals, and ensuring department-wide awareness of state mandates.
- Prepare presentations and detailed reports for county leadership, including the Board of Supervisors, to inform policy decisions and program outcomes.
- Act as a resource to staff on complex planning projects.
- Offer guidance on the integration of legislative changes into ongoing initiatives.
- Support community engagement efforts, including outreach to community planning groups, stakeholders, and residents affected by new programs or legislative changes.
HIRING TIMELINES & DATES
- Job Offer and Background Process begins in January 2025. Note: Current County employees may be excluded from additional background screening.
- Pre-employment Medical Screening: Approximately 3 days following successful background investigation results.
- Anticipated Start Date: Start date will be based upon successful completion of medical screening or other mutually agreed upon date.
