DescriptionThe City of Richmond Department of Public Utilities is seeking qualified candidates to fill the Plant Operations Supervisor position. The selected candidate will be responsible for the daily operations of the Water Purification Plant.Duties include but are not limited to
- Adjusting treatment chemical settings;
- Operating and monitoring various treatment equipment;
- Monitoring the treatment process to ensure state and federal regulations are met;
- Reading, interpreting and adjusting gages, meters and control panels to ensure plant equipment and processes are working properly;
- Supervising a team of three (3) Plant Operators;
- Monitoring the distribution system to ensure pressure and take level parameters are maintained.
Qualifications, Special Certifications and LicensesKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of water treatment operations; operating principles of valves, pumps, and motors; principles and methods of laboratory water analyses; effects of water treatment processes, and potential issues that may arise. Knowledge of safety principles and practices; applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations regarding water treatment; management / supervision principles, practices; computer software used in water plant system controls and operations; basic mathematics concepts and ability to perform calculations; chemicals Safety Data Sheets; and basic science concepts and their applications in regards to plant operations.Demonstrated skills in understanding diagrams and blueprints; reading and interpreting plans and specifications; safely working with water treatment equipment and treatment chemicals; budget knowledge; leadership skills; skills to operate and maintain assigned equipment; oral and written communication skills; problem solving and analytical skillsDemonstrated abilities to prioritize, assign, supervise, and review the work of plant operators; and make important decisions.MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED;
- 6 years of water experience;
- An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification.
LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a Commonwealth of Virginia Level 1 Water Operator’s License.
PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Class 1 Waterworks license;
- Supervisory experience;
- Extensive computer skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel
- Associate’s degree or higher in Biology, Chemistry, Geology or Environment Science
