Work support may also include “right of way”, and facility maintenance; facility and landscape construction; irrigation; special event and facility rental support. See specific job descriptions for full details.JOB SUMMARYGrounds, Parks, Fields, Open Space / landscape maintenance to include mowing, edging, aeration, fertilization, chemical application, flower beds and planters, ornamental care and athletic field preparation and maintenance.Applies herbicides, fungicides, and pesticides safely.Facility maintenance to include repairs to public facilities including restrooms, playgrounds, shelters, trails, fences, lighting, irrigation systems, and buildings.Construction and installation of park facilities such as playground equipment, drinking fountains, landscape planters and flower beds, retaining walls, soil and sod preparation, irrigation systems, concrete flat work, and carpentry.Janitorial Support to include trash collection removal on parks, trails, drainage systems, and open space; cleaning and maintenance of public restroom facilities.Right of Way Maintenance – roadside weed mowing and trash removal using tractor with weed cutting attachment, walk behind mowers, and string trimmers.Snow removal for driveways, trails, sidewalks and parking lots.Records and maintains work flow and other information using Cartegraph software.Special Event Support – provide support as needed to community groups for special events.Other job duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESA Parks Technician III serves as a team lead and provides oversight to seasonal staff, and volunteers.QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or GED. Minimum experience as required by position includes skilled landscape maintenance such as mowing, edging, sprinkler installation/repair, plant and flower installation, etc.; landscape, construction, and equipment operation required. Must possess excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Parks Technician I
Minimum 18 years of age. Commercial or municipal parks/landscaping experience preferred.
- Parks Technician II
Minimum 18 years of age. At least one year of service to City of Golden preferred. Minimum two years skilled landscape maintenance such as mowing, edging, sprinkler installation/repair, plant and flower installation, etc.; landscape, construction, and equipment operation required. Capable of all aspects of snow removal.
- Parks Technician III
Minimum 18 years of age. At least one year of service to the City of Golden preferred. Minimum three years’ skilled landscape maintenance such as mowing, edging, sprinkler installation/repair, plant and flower installation, etc.; landscape, construction, and equipment operation required. Capable of all aspects of snow removal.CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSValid driver’s license and good driving record.Current Flagger Certification preferred.Current Pesticide Applicator License preferred.Certified Playground Inspector preferred.

No certifications required.
- Parks Technician II
Completion of CSU Master Gardener Certification. Completion of either Playground Inspector Certification, CO Pesticide Applicators License, or related certification relevant to parks operations, or ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment.
- Parks Technician III
NALP Landscape Industry Certified Technician in either Turf Irrigation, Open Space, Horticulture, or equivalent required, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of appointment. Meets all Parks Tech II requirements. Related College degree may be applied in lieu of certifications if determined appropriate by hiring Supervisor.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIESTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Basic math with the ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to determine/calculate area, volume, chemical mix ratios, etc. Ability to complete time sheets.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of landscape maintenance techniques and procedures including planting, irrigation, and disease control, maintenance, construction, and repair work. Proficient use of general grounds maintenance tools and equipment. Ability to learn software programs associated with parks division. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
