Location: Seattle, WA
Job Description: The Port of Seattle is looking for a skilled operator to perform manual work, alone or as part of crew, involving equipment operations and inspections to assess, clean, maintain, and repair stormwater infrastructure. This individual will do technical work within an office environment as well as manual labor in the field in all types of weather conditions, while using a variety of tools and equipment.
- You will operate various pieces of equipment to inspect, assess, and repair stormwater systems, and prepare reports for the Stormwater Utility.
- You will prepare reports, maps, documents inspections, take photographs of property conditions and maintain required records using a computer database and/or spreadsheet, global positioning system (GPS) and geographic information system (GIS) mapping for reporting and record keeping.
- You will communicate with supervisors, other departments, property tenants, contractors, public, and other individuals to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give, receive advice or direction.
- You will assist with the Port’s Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination (IDDE) program compliance, that includes responding to complaints and conducting Closed Captioning Television (CCTV) inspection and cleaning of stormwater facilities and locations.
- You will maintain a comprehensive, current knowledge of Federal, State, and local stormwater regulations and guidelines, and attend workshops and training sessions as appropriate.
- You will assist with stormwater system repairs and maintenance, including storm drain structures, piping and ditches, catch basins, and treatment systems, and assist with digging, backfilling and asphalt work.
- You will maintain a safe work area for the work crew and public, to include but not limited to cones, barricades, and warning devices that directs traffic at work sites.
Qualifications
- Experienced – You have five (5) years of recent experience in both operating heavy construction equipment, vehicles and various tools, or you have completed an Operating Engineer apprenticeship program, and must obtain a tanker endorsement. Your experience with heavy construction equipment and vehicles includes CCTV truck, backhoe, Vactor truck and sweep truck. In addition, you have the following experience working with tools including to capture measurement, documentation or perform your work in the field: manhole cover puller, GPS, camera, measuring devices and hand tools. You must be able to lift 50 lbs.
- Educated – You possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
