  • Performs visual inspections of all fire doors, sidewalks, walls, ceilings, doors, roofs and floors to determine the need for repairs and performs repair work on a journeyman level;
  • Determines type and quantities of materials for all crafts listed;
  • Conducts maintenance on a variety of structures built of brick, block and stone;
  • Plans work and determines methods and techniques to be used;
  • Installs, adjusts and repairs doors and closures;
  • Installs or replaces vinyl composition floor tiles;
  • Installs laminate was wall protection or to countertops, etc.;
  • Installs safety treads on stairs;
  • Replaces ceiling tiles and reports or replaces ceiling grid;
  • Prepares coating materials by tinting, toning, matching, blending and mixing various additives;
  • Works from oral instructions, blueprints, work orders and rough sketches;
  • Performs regularly scheduled maintenance on all smoke and fire doors;
  • Repairs and maintains new and existing ceramic tile walls and floors;
  • Erects masonry walls and partitions with brick, hollow tile block and cinder blocks;
  • Finishes concrete by troweling and floating materials to the desired finish;
  • Assembles items with a variety of joining techniques such as miters, rabbits, dados, biscuits and mortise and tenon;
  • Uses glues and adhesives to secure wood pieces, veneers and countertops;
  • Plans and carries out projects from initial layout to completion;
  • Determines the methods, techniques, devices and materials that are best suited for the surface finished required such as glossy finish, grained effect or a finish that meets specified thickness and level;
  • Applies prime and finish coats of paint to interior and exterior walls, doors, ceilings, windows, buildings, outside steps, railings, etc.;
  • Completes work orders within the required timeframes;
  • Provides assistance to other members on the maintenance team, as needed; and
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: 1 positions is Monday through Friday, 7:30am to 4:00pm and 2 positions are Monday to Thursday, 1:00pm to 11:30pm (subject to change based on the needs of the Agency).Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Not authorized

QualificationsPHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The Maintenance Mechanic makes repairs from ladders, scaffolding and platforms to reach equipment in out-of-the way places. A great amount of physical effort is required in the application of plaster on ceilings and walls which requires the use of tools overhead and above shoulder height. This requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Occasionally lifts and carries items over 90 pounds. When working on ladders and scaffolds, must be able to climb and carry tools and materials.Work is inside and outside in hot, humid or cold environments. It is usually dusty, dirty and greasy. Must be able to work at heights as job dictates or work under buildings in close quarters to accomplish goals of the Building Structures Unit (BSU). The person in this position is frequently exposed to the possibility of sometimes severe strains, cuts, burns, noise, eye damage, bruises and infection and is, therefore, required to use appropriate procedures and personal protective equipment. Also, exposed to other hazards such as eye injuries while chipping plaster and concrete and is frequently exposed to dust and dirt while mixing concrete. There is continuous exposure to paint splatter and inhalation of fumes from chemicals in paint.Applicants will be rated in accordance with the .
