Responsibilities: JOB SUMMARYThe overall objective and purpose of the Hotel Accountant is responsible for assisting in the completion of certain functions of the monthly financial reporting package and the monthly closing. The position will also be responsible for Sales Tax, Intercompany, backup support for Accounts Payable/Accounts Receivable, certain general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, Income Journal, and assisting with budgeting, forecasting, and year end audit. The function will support other functions of the Accounting department as required. CORE RESPONSIBILITIESPrimary areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to the following:
- Assistance of budgets, forecasting, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification.
- Provides oversight and maintain controls over hotel house funds.
- Works with the Director of Finance, Department Heads, and General Manager to develop and maintain accurate financial reporting package and monthly close.
- Prepares monthly statements by collecting data; analyzing and investigating variances; summarizing data, information and trends.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual statements by assembling data in and in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensures appropriate corrective actions are made based on internal/external audit results.
- Responds to financial inquiries by gathering, analyzing, summarizing, interpreting, and substantiating data.
- Provides special reports by studying variances; assist with preparing budgets; developing forecasts.
- Accomplishes finance and organization missions by completing related results as needed.
- Audit work papers – create the audit work papers including the preparation of the various confirmations, reconciliations and audit related schedules.
- Annual audit – assist with auditors’ requests such as confirmations, invoice copies, cancelled checks, cash receipts, etc. selected for testing. Assist the Director of Finance to ensure a smooth and efficient audit.
- Monthly, quarterly, and year reconciliation of balance sheet accounts according to GAAP; including all supporting documentation.
- Responsible for income journal and reconciliation, review and rebuttal of chargebacks and inquiries.
- Responsible for ensuring general ledger and account code combinations are accurate and in alignment with financial reporting.
- Special Projects – timely complete of special projects as assigned by management.
- Responsible for reconciliation and compliance with Marriott Bonvoy
- Ensures compliance with standard operating procedures.
- Communicates financial concepts in a clear, persuasive, and professional manner that drives desired behaviors.
- Research inventory discrepancies when costs deviate from budget and trends by spot checking inventory counts to ensure accuracy.
- Assists other departments with unresolved guest billing issues and issues involving cash, credit cards, invoices, etc.
- All other duties planned assigned, planned or un-planned.
Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related experience and/or training; or equivalent – preferred
- 5+ years of experience in Accounting & Finance – required
- 3 + years of relevant work experience in similar scope and title – required
- Experience within luxury brand/markets – required

- Knowledge of accounting software, payroll systems, spreadsheet software and word processing software
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.
- Ability to effectively present information to top management, peers and subordinates
WORK ENVIRONMENTThe work environment/conditions described herein are representative of those that an incumbent may experience.
- Must be comfortable working in a shared space, with constant noise, without the use of a private office.
- Must be able to cope with frequent changing priorities and deadlines with a high degree of optimism, professionalism & collaboration.
- Schedules may vary from week to week based on business demands in excess of 40 hours with or without notice.
