The Homeless Services Division of the Prince William Department of Social Services is seeking to hire a bilingual Homeless Outreach Worker to provide street outreach services to the homeless or unsheltered population. We seek someone who can work independently to provide services to our Spanish-speaking clients who live in encampments or on the streets of Prince William County. We need a dynamic individual who can hit the ground running to find their clientele and motivate them to take steps to improve their situation and secure safe and stable housing. The outreach worker should have previous experience working directly with chronically homeless individuals and collaborating with multi-agencies to secure services. This is a temporary position through June 30, 2025, with the possibility of future funding.ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Homeless Outreach Worker will identify those hard-to-reach homeless individuals, particularly those whose first language is Spanish, and assist them in finding permanent housing. This may include directing them to mental health or medical services, connecting them to job resources, finding them immediate short-term shelter, assisting them to apply for financial benefits, and helping them stabilize their lives. You will collaborate with other community providers to conduct your outreach and focus your efforts on key “hot spot” neighborhoods where unsheltered individuals are most likely to be found.You will use a vulnerability assessment tool to conduct client intakes, determine their risk level and prioritize their needs. Based on your findings, you will provide appropriate resources and referrals. You will collaborate with the Homeless Services team to conduct case conferences and plan after-care services for those who transition to permanent housing.The Homeless Outreach Worker will work with partnering agencies including mental health providers, police, shelter programs and non-profits agencies. You will attend case conferences, team meetings, training workshops and community meetings.The nature of this job requires someone who is outgoing and friendly, but able to maintain strong boundaries and guide clients to the best decisions. The Homeless Outreach Worker will regularly work outside of standard business hours, including evenings and weekends and go to homeless encampments, shelters, and other off-site locations- wherever they can find this hard-to-reach population. They must have first-hand knowledge and/or experience with homeless populations. Bachelor’s degree in the human services field; or bachelor’s degree in any field accompanied by a minimum of two years appropriate and related experience in a human-services related area.Candidate must pass a Spanish-language listening/speaking test at the moderate or higher proficiency level.PREFERRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

  • At least two years of experience performing street outreach or similar work with homeless individuals living in encampments, parks, cars or other places not meant for human habitation.
  • At least two years of experience collaborating with community partners who assist the homeless population, identifying crisis situations, and referring clients to outside services.
  • At least two years of experience developing and maintaining case records with unique identifiers to include assessments, case notes, and service plans.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidates must pass criminal history, child protective services and DMV background checks.
  • Resource/foster parents for youth in the Prince William foster-care program may not be employed by the Prince William Dept of Social Services. Resource/foster parents for youth from other localities are welcome to apply.
  • Staff in this position must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to drive for work.

WORK SCHEDULE
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9 am to 5 pm (hours may vary due to outreach work); Tuesday and Thursday, 10:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.HIRING SALARY RANGE
