Job Description: DescriptionJOB SUMMARY:Mesa County Department of Human Services is looking for a motivated worker to provide transportation services for children, youth and adults who are involved in the child welfare and adult protection system.The transportation specialist will make sure children, youth and at-risk adults arrive at their destination in a safe and timely manner.Essential DutiesESSENTIAL DUTIES:The following duty statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and do not include other non-essential or marginal duties that may be required. The County reserves the right to modify or change the duties or essential functions of the job at any time.The transportation specialist will coordinate with Social Case Workers who have clients in need of transportation to and from appointments. This can include:

  • Driving children and youth to therapy, medical appointments, school, family time and any other transportation needs
  • Drive at-risk adults to therapy, medical appointments and any other needed appointments
  • Utilize Mesa County Vehicle
  • Assure vehicle is clean and gassed up
  • Understand child safety laws pertaining to car seats
  • Basic understanding of child behaviors
  • Assist clients with unloading and loading
  • Knowledgeable of area roads and neighborhoods
  • Polite and professional disposition
  • Ability to remain calm when driving in a stressful situation
  • Oral and written communication must be clear and effective.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum RequirementsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:Minimum age of 21 years old.Hold a valid driver license with a clean driving recordMaintain vehicle insurance at the required level per the HR policyHave a safe, reliable vehicleUndergo a background checkEDUCATION:High school diploma.Supplemental InformationPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
This position requires standing, stooping, sitting, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 20 or more pounds.
Occasional exposure of work time to hazardous situations which involve physically violent persons, interviewing mentally or emotionally disturbed persons or bodily injury from biohazards, infections, or blood-borne pathogens.
Work involves a considerable period of time (20-40%) away from a standard office environment, much of which consists of driving to, and from appointment locations. At times more than normal physical exertion is required in transporting children, youth and adults. Work may occur in situations in which incumbent is threatened with physical harm by hostile, angry clients.In compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act the following items can be used as a determining factor in the starting and ongoing wage of an employee working in this position:
