Working in the performance running category, this person will have the opportunity to create innovative and market right footwear products that support ASICS’s global ambitions in running.This position’s main responsibilities will be to create silo design direction, present ways to advance our existing inline items, and champion new, innovative inline concepts.We’re looking for a designer who is team-oriented and will have the comfort and confidence to come in and build upon existing design guidelines for our key inline items, and at the same time present new ways to express our brand DNA through new concepts.The ideal candidate is someone who understands the global running market and the communities of influence existing in each region.In addition, this position will be sitting in Boston with other design members, and reporting into the Global Design Head based in Japan. So, we’re looking for someone who is comfortable in this working environment.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- This position has one supervisory responsibility.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- Interacts with all levels throughout organization including employees and outside vendors.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:
- Understand category-specific consumer and their culture/ritual by learning about consumer and market trends; and translate what you have learned into all product designs
- Contributes to the category design direction.
- Create innovative concepts and promote new ideas.
- Provides designs for inline key styles.
- Execute all product design details, including construction, color, form, style, detail, fit, performance, and cost/value requirements.
- Present visual concept solutions to product briefs; collaborate with our Design, Development and Product Line Management groups to focus product designs for market success.
- Finalize technical packages.
- Submit all relevant information needed for the development process.
- Collaborate for efficient process and communication flow within product team for all issues.
- Present information effectively to customers, clients, and related employees of the organization.
- Influence and collaborate with key business partners and act as point person with color design team.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Advanced knowledge of color, textures, material construction, human factors, and form as they relate to designing excellent products.
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite. Interest in 3D a plus.
- Solid experience in the footwear industry, with a preferable background in running.
- Ability to interpret current footwear trends into the design of affordable product with mass appeal.
- Thorough knowledge of shoe construction, duty, and maneuverability in design to affect pricing.
- Brings a track record of skillful technical design with success on the market and within elite end-users.
- An established understanding of the global running market, especially the United States, Europe and Japan.
- Commitment to continuously researching both the competitive landscape as well as maintaining thorough knowledge of our customer base.
- Strong organizational skills for managing timelines, balancing the requested design options and concise initial design technical packages for development.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentations.
- Strong conceptual thinking, problem solving skills and ability to advance ideas.
- Comfort working in a hybrid-based environment, coming into the office 1-2 days/week.
- Ability to work in the morning or evening to accommodate international calls with key business partners.
- 20% Domestic and International Travel.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- 5+ years’ professional industrial design experience.
- Supervisory experience a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree (B.A. /B.S.) in Industrial Design/Product Design, Technology, Merchandising, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite for work an communication
