Job Description: Job Summary:Responsibilities include administering occupational therapy treatments to patients, working under the direction of and as an assistant to the Occupational Therapist. Job Duties:Routine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self-governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self-Determination and Education Assistance Act. Administers evidence-based occupational therapy interventions to address the physical, cognitive, functional, psychosocial, sensory, and other aspects of performance as directed by the occupational therapist. The interventions may be implemented in a variety of contexts and environments to support engagement in everyday life activities that affect health, well-being, and quality of life, as informed by the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework. Uphold the ethical standards, values, and attitudes of the occupational therapy profession. Effectively collaborates with Occupations Therapist in service delivery. Demonstrates knowledge of social determinants of health for persons, groups, and populations with or at risk for disabilities and chronic health conditions. This includes an understanding of the epidemiological factors that impact the public health and welfare of populations. Communicates and works inter-professionally with all who provide services and programs for persons, groups, and populations. Instructs, motivates and assists patients to learn and improve in all aspects of everyday life activities through functional therapeutic intervention. Observes patients during treatments and compiles and evaluates data on patients’ responses to treatment and progress and reports orally or in writing to the Occupational Therapist. Provides assistance to the Occupational Therapist during patient testing, evaluations, and complex procedures as needed. Fits patients for, adjusts, and trains patients in the use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and adaptive equipment to enable a patient’s ability to perform their everyday activities. Gives orientation to new Occupational Therapist Assistants and directs and gives instructions to Occupational Therapy Aides. Performs clerical duties such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering the telephone, taking messages, scheduling appointments and filling out forms as needed. Measures patient’s range-of-joint motion, length, and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist the Occupational Therapist to compile data for patient evaluations. Monitors treatments administered by Occupational Therapy Aides. Coordinates occupational therapy with other types of therapeutic activities. Maintains accurate records of patient treatments. Assists in educating patients with home exercise programs and use of equipment. Participates in educational programs and in-service training. Attends meetings. Considers specific patient variables, such as communication skills, motivation, and stamina, and adapts techniques and/or makes adjustments to equipment to meet the needs of the patient. Maintains sensitivity to patient comfort and privacy. Maintains confidentiality. Other duties may be assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis job has no supervisory responsibilities Qualifications:EDUCATION REQUIREMENTAssociate’s degree from a 2-year college or technical school; or two years (60 credit hours) coursework from a 4-year college or university, Graduate from an Occupational Therapy Assistant program that is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE) of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTNo additional experience required.Computer SkillsTo perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software and Word Processing software.Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsMust possess a valid driver’s license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating. Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program. Knowledge of principles, methods, and equipment used in occupational therapy body mechanics. Able to understand and interpret complex written or verbal instructions. Excellent customer service skills. Must possess and maintain an Occupational Therapist Assistant License issued by the Oklahoma Medical Board. Must possess Basic Life Support (BLS) and maintain it throughout employment. Can be obtained during orientation.OTHER QUALIFICATIONSThe employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG’s Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA’s List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG’s List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information. Must be able to operate standard office machines and computer programs.Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for child care.PHYSICAL DEMANDSWhile performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 100 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.WORK ENVIRONMENTThe noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
