Job Description: Introduction\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nDelaware’s Attorney General, the State’s chief law enforcement officer, has a broad responsibility to combat crime, uphold civil rights, safeguard families, provide legal services to entirety of state government, and fight fraud.�\r\n\r\n\r\nIn the Civil Division, approximately 80 attorneys provide legal support to the executive branch agencies in the form of general counsel advice, administrative hearing prosecutions, board representation, and all stages of civil litigation.��\r\n\r\n\r\nAttorneys in the Civil Division enjoy a 37.5 hour work week with true work/life balance including: a hybrid work environment, no billable hours, generous paid time off, affordable benefits plans, free trainings and CLE, 12 weeks paid parental leave, exclusive public service student loan forgiveness programs, pension eligibility, and a supportive collaborative work environment.\r\n\r\n\r\nSummary StatementThe Department of Justice, Civil Division, Public Safety Unit, seeks a Deputy Attorney General to provide legal advice to the Delaware Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement (DATE), a division of the Department of Safety and Homeland Security.� The DATE is responsible for the enforcement of the alcohol and marijuana laws of Title 4, and youth access to tobacco laws in �� 1115 through 1127 of Title 11.��\r\nCareer Ladder\r\nThe Deputy Attorney General (DAG) career steps and salaries are based on experience, skills and the number of years barred.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nSalary:�\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nPay Grade A14 DAG II� \tSalary Range $87,822/min� $92,106/max�\r\nPay Grade A16 DAG III� \tSalary Range $96,997/min� $99,129/max\r\nPay Grade A18 DAG IV� \tSalary Range $106,626/min� $108,737/max�\r\nPay Grade A20 DAG V� \tSalary Range $118,238/min� $122,920/max�\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nEssential FunctionsThe Deputy Attorney General (DAG) will serve as general counsel to the Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement (DATE) and as a subject matter expert on Title 4 and the Administrative Rules of the Delaware Alcoholic Beverage Control Commissioner and the Delaware Marijuana Commissioner.� The DAG will assist DATE with prosecutions of civil violations of the Liquor Control Act and the Delaware Marijuana Control Act, including to review and draft responses and motions, and will assist DATE by reviewing and drafting legislation, policies, procedures, MOUs and contracts related to the regulation and enforcement of alcohol, tobacco, and marijuana in the State of Delaware.\r\n\r\n\r\nThe DAG will also have other duties related to the Department of Safety and Homeland Security (DSHS) and the Public Safety Unit, including acting as board counsel to the Delaware Marijuana Control Act Oversight Committee, assisting with Delaware State Police trial boards, and handling additional assignments as directed by the State Solicitor, Deputy State Solicitor, Unit Head, or Assistant Unit Head.��\r\n\r\n\r\nJob Requirements\r\nThe most qualified candidates have some prior general counsel and criminal law experience; however, such expertise and experiences are not required for selection. The DAG should be able to take a proactive approach to assisting its agency clients, therefore a successful candidate should have the ability to work with State agencies to identify potential issues and assist State agencies to address such issues to minimize or avoid future legal action.��\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nThe DAG should be able to work independently, meet deadlines, communicate clearly with client agencies, and should have demonstrated legal ability and a thorough knowledge of relevant laws and court rules.
