Job Description: Career Strategy Consultants is seeking a Metallurgist for a manufacturing client in the Mingo Junction, OH area. This is a full-time permanent position that will offer a generous base salary, a lucrative benefits package, and also provide substantial growth opportunities.The Metallurgist reports to Quality Manager and supports steel making, hot strip mill and outside processing operations with a hands-on approach ensuring the quality of goods produced at the facility. With the goal of meeting safety, industry, regulatory, and customer expectations he will quickly and effectively act when non-conformances are found with continual improvement and adherence of the established quality management system in mind.Responsibilities:As voice of the customer will collaborate with steel making, hot mill, production planning, outside processors and engineering personnel to determine critical part features and review manufacturability of design. Make recommendations to modify process or inspection specifications and tolerances as necessary to support cost effective production.
- Provide engineering support to operations ensuring consistent application of quality techniques by supporting:
- Quality issues of capability, tolerancing, and raw materials applying appropriate measurement system analysis tools.
- Identifying problems, examining possible solutions, implementing action plans, and providing resources.
- Communication and reinforcement of client’s commitment to quality improvement efforts.
- Support development and submission of product development documents for new product launches to meet customer requirements.
- Determine when process stability and capability studies should be performed on existing processes.
- Review and analyze results by applying appropriate statistical methods.
- Recommend changes to processes based upon findings and perform follow up to verify effectiveness.
- Participate in trial review and planning activities to determine appropriate use of existing and new measurement systems during new tool or process design and startup.
- Coordinate pre-launch production trial run process monitoring.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of process control procedures and documentation.
- Facilitate and promote use of appropriate problem-solving techniques for effective root cause analysis and successful corrective action.
- Perform duties in accordance with quality system requirements as the voice of customer.
- Coordinate with Sales, Purchasing, Engineering and Production to resolve customer complaints and concerns.
- Lead/participate in improvement plans for strategic customers.• Determine and apply appropriate Measurement System Analysis tools.
- Participate in quality reporting and management review process.
- Monitor the Periodic Review Matrix to ensure repetitive quality requirements are met.
- Manage quality metrics and present findings and recommendations to the management review team.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering Metallurgical, Mechanical or Manufacturing
- Exceptional mechanical aptitude (i.e., intuitive understanding of mechanical processes)
- 1-3 years steel making experience specifically with hot rolled products.
- Proven track record of driving continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment.
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Experience with other quality software applications beneficial, i.e., Minitab etc.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with cross-functional work groups including suppliers, customers, and associates, both verbally and in writing. Excellent listening/communication skills.
- Problem Solving & Decision Making – identifies and solves problems, develops innovative solutions, acts decisively, and shows good judgment.
