Job Description: Position DescriptionAbout Harris County Flood Control District: The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County, the third most populated county in the United States, with a population in excess of 4.7 million, including the City of Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county, which consist of approximately 1,500 channels totaling nearly 2,500 miles in length, as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins, totaling more than 10,000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks including Greens bayou.What you will do at Harris County Flood Control District:The Harris County Flood Control District is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Assistant Engineering Project Manager with the Engineering Division.Responsible for assisting in implementing projects and defined tasks while concurrently acquiring the basic technical engineering skills with increasing levels of responsibility.Essential Functions and Duties:Manage well-defined small projects or small tasks within a larger project.Acquire basic technical engineering skills in the field of hydrology and hydraulics with increasing levels of responsibility to ensure preparedness to become a professional engineer.Work at all times under the supervision of a registered engineer.Work on assigned projects or tasks with approved scopes, schedules, and budgets.Perform engineering tasks related to the design of flood reduction and maintenance projects.Prepare portions of the final project documentation.Make limited judgments regarding projects or tasks that could affect scopes, schedules, and budgets.Proactively seek out technical guidance to ensure that tasks are completed within allocated scope, schedule and budget.Learn and ultimately become proficient with fundamental project management tools and techniques including effective scoping, scheduling, and budgeting.Participate in the public engagement process by assisting in preparation for public meetings, assisting with preparing technical presentations with the creation of PowerPoint slides and graphics, and attending District public presentations.Promote client satisfaction to internal and external clients.Advise management of problems and prepare recommendations for solutions using best practices.Prepare correspondence, complete forms, and maintain records and files related to work activities.Perform other duties that may be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directsHarris County is an Equal Opportunity Employer
