Job Description: GENERAL SUMMARY:Assist all staff with the planning, implementation, and supervision of recreation programs, activities and special events for children and adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. No direct employee supervision responsibilities.Duties Greets incoming visitors/participants with a welcoming smile and a verbal hello. Provides hospitality, staff support and communication. Assists in planning, implementation, and supervision of activities for children and adults who are living with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Activities may include field trips, dances, various adaptive sports, walking, swimming, track, arts and crafts, fishing, bowling, tennis, volleyball, basketball and more. Will be required to independently lesson plan for a number of programs as well as oversee, and evaluate, the day programs. Implements programs and/or supervise facility and outside rental groups in absence of Recreation Specialists and Recreation Manager. Coordinates volunteers. This includes (but is not limited to): keeping updated log of volunteer hours, reporting monthly hours to Volunteer Pasadena, taking in volunteer applications and processing the applications in a timely manner, assigning volunteers for events, recognizing volunteers at council meeting (when applicable), ordering/picking up./ and distributing volunteer awards, etc. This position is also known as the “Volunteer Coordinator”. Directs a summer camp. This includes (but not limited to): preparation of materials, confirming outing locations, securing transportation, assigning staff to participants, contacting families prior to camp, leading the camp, cleaning up the camp and all things related to making the camp successful. Directs the afterschool program. This includes (but not limited to): preparation of materials, confirming outing locations, securing transportation, assigning staff to participants, contacting families, leading the program, making flyers to inform parents of changes in the schedule, etc. Certifies as an American Red Cross lifeguard. Must also receive certification as a Lifeguard Instructor (LGI). Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City’s timekeeping and attendance policy.Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. Minimum of 4 – 5 years of related experience; or a combination of experience and education. Lifeguard and Lifeguard Instructor Certification or ability to obtain with one (1) year of hire. Proficiency in Microsoft office suite (word, excel, powerpoint, publisher, etc.) PREFERRED: Some higher education in Therapeutic Recreation, Leisure, Sports and Recreation or some related field.The City of Pasadena offers very generous benefits to all full-time employees.
